KATHERINE TAKES OUT WORLD CHAMPS !
Another World Championship for Katherine Prumm 2007 has so far been a stellar year for nineteen year old Katherine Prumm of Bombay. She has made motocross history by being the 1st rider to win two World Motocross Titles. She has spent the last three weeks in Belgium training with her brother Matthew and her Molson Kawasaki Team mates, familiarizing herself with the demanding sand tracks of Europe, with Lierop having the reputation of being the most difficult and energy sapping of all the Grand Prix tracks. Saturday was qualifying and Katherine looked good, posting the fastest qualifying time, an impressive 5.5 seconds faster than her nearest rival. Although on pole Katherine didn’t have the best of starts, rounding the first corner in 9th position in both races. She worked her way through to the front within the first three laps, posting the fastest lap times in both races. From there she never looked back and won both races by a massive 26 seconds. An excited Katherine speaking from the Netherlands said she was ecstatic to be on the top step of the podium hearing the New Zealand Anthem and to win the World Championship for the 2nd time in a row. She only wished that fellow Kiwi Josh Coppins, who had to withdraw from injury, had been able to celebrate at this round. This result comes on top of her success of a perfect score of winning the 4 rounds of the Australian Women’s Nationals. Katherine is due to start competing in the New Zealand Women’s championship which starts at the end of September. Should sufficient funding be available, Katherine would like to compete at the American National Women’s Cup in November. In 2008, the Women’s World Championships will be extended out to 5 rounds, with 4 rounds being held in Europe and 1 in South Africa.
