Go Fast Supermoto Showdown Results

Well the dust has settled from the first GoFastSports Supermoto Showdown… The outcome was, by all reports, an outstanding success. Thanks to all of those people who made it possible.  For those who didn’t make the action: There was around 280 practice laps on the Friday followed by a 2 lap timed run for each rider later in the afternoon, (the Fastest lap set by Toby Summers) to establish 3 groups of 4 riders with the fastest spread across the field. Saturday saw 28 Sprint races with riders in each group riding 1 on 1 against each other for points, to establish their grade positions. This saw three riders having to run off for the last spot in the A grade semis. Sunday had these graded groups, now essentially racing in a semi final knock out, with the top in each grade choosing their opponent. This then went down to running off in the final for 3rd and 4^th placings in each grade and then 3 x 2 lap sprints back to back for the C and B grades to establish 1^st and 2^nd in each grade. One race saw Duncan Hart backing his bike over the finish line for the win after loosing it in the last corner. The A grade final added an extra lap running a 3 lap 3 race format with Summers and Carrick battling for the overall win. Carrick took the first win when Summers tried unsuccessfully riding on the inside of Carrick on the tightest corner of the track and ending up literally perched on the back of Carrick's bike. Race 2 saw Carrick jump the start and lock his front wheel in the MX style starting gate, gifting Summers the win. This left it all down to 1 race and both riders went into the all important first corner side by side causing Carrick to run wide and unfortunately stalled the bike and Summers ran away with the lead making Toby Summers the first "Go Fast Sports Supermoto Showdown Challenge" Champion. Rally Nz and the organizers were impressed with the whole event and the crowd loved the fast almost frantic pace of the format. Lots of starts and lots of finishes, a few offs and good clean racing created a very enjoyable event for all.
